Youth information makes contributions to youth in improving their skills and abilities, benefiting from opportunities, facilities related to young people, solving their problems, taking part in local and international activities.

According to the “European Youth Information Charter”, the youth’s access to either information they need or the unbiased, complete, clear and trustworthy answers to their questions is handled within the framework of democracy, human rights and respect to fundamental rights and freedom. The right of being informed is adopted in principle by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Convention on the Rights of the Children, and European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and Council of Europe’s recommendation number 907 about information and consultancy for youth. This right also forms the basis for the youth information activities of the European Union.

Integrated approach in youth information encompasses a wide range of topics that youngsters are interested in and includes a series of services including informing, consulting, recommendation, counseling, support, assistance, education, networking, and directing them to an expert. Such services are delivered to young people by service groups established under youth information centers or different organizations, by internet and by media.

Main aims of youth information can be summarized as follows;

·         To act as an organization that coordinates all the information, in the center of information resources that young people can reach.

·          To provide youth with necessary information for their social, personal and occupational improvement and deliver this information, by using all possible channels, to different youth groups in a way they can easily understand and reach.

·          Supporting youngsters through a personalized approach and enabling them to internalize and put into practice presented information.

·         To provide an active service that meets the youth’s needs and answer their questions instead of giving an inactive service by only informing about services and opportunities available.

·         Guiding young people through the many organizations and services and generate communication between youth and related organizations supporting youth about their needs and problems.

·         To encourage the youth in order make them to use presented information sources to provide a basis for personal improvement and have self determination.

·         To make the people to whom youth may ask for information such as parents, teachers, youth workers, social workers, guidance specialists more informed so that they can meet the needs of youth in a more effective way.

GSM-Youth Services Centre tries to spread the understanding about the importance of reaching the credible, objective and true information among non-profit organizations and youth and conducts many projects on ‘Youth Information’.
