Türkiye'de Gençlik
Having a long and healthy life, meeting the basic needs like clean water and food, participating in social and political activities, reaching information easily and having a safer life are the fundamentals of human development. Individuals’ lives and standards can be better only if most of these needs are met.
National Human development Reports published regularly in several countries under the leadership of United Nations Development Program, are being prepared on ‘Youth’ in Turkey in 2008. The reason for choosing youth as the subject by United Nations Development Program is that the big part of the population of Turkey is constituted by young people and they are the key of national improvement.
The lack of a national report on youth in Turkey propelled United Nations Development Program to make a research on this subject and make suggestions based on the outcomes on youth policy to follow through cooperation with NGOs and other partners.
Youngsters took the fundamental responsibility while preparing the human development report for youth. Thousands of youngsters help the report be written; academicians, public organizations and non governmental organizations took part in the preparation process of the report as well.
In the preparation step of the report, a survey was conducted among 3000 youngsters, 24 focus group meetings were arranged, and face-to-face meetings were held to define the problem sources, needs and expectations of young people from different regions and cities. Academicians supported the report with their articles, period was turned to a documental and report was published with a press conference on 21st of March, 2008.
The National Human development Report was the starting point of change in youth work in Turkey. As GSM-Youth Services Centre, we shared our knowledge and experiences about the report and we gave counseling service voluntarily on every step related to us.
